I know I’ve been on about our local Samsons, but they are BIG! I wanted to add a video of them dancing but that means paying……..
They date from the Baroque times and were part of a Catholic festival, designed to cheer folk up. This was at the 20th Birthday of our latest local Samson in Ramingstein, though it was technically his 22oth. He’s the one in blue and red with his two dwarves -I’ve no idea why they are there, but they are named after the Patron Saints of the local churches. Apparently our Samson’s predecessor fell in the river Mur.

Lovely shots and the scale is quite impressive, they are very big. Are there people in side them?

There’s someone inside each one, and part of the parade is usually a dance, but as I’m too mean to pay for it, I couldn’t put the video on. There’s usually a group of about 5 people around as they dance in case they fall over -which has happened after the guy inside has had too many beers!
