The Lungau was a major mining centre up until the late 18th century. Up on the hills above Schönfeld, there is a Miner’s way where the ore was carried down. There are many old ‘Stollen’ or mines which are cut into the side of the hill. You can go and have a good poke around these, some have collapsed such as the one in this photo. No Health and Safety here, just take your own responsibility. We didn’t go in, just put the camera in! Wonderful!
