These are our local treat, good basic, filling food!  Made from the same dough as doughnuts (I think), they are at best when freshly fried.  They are often eaten at weddings too.  These had sultanas in. Tasty!

The other German name for Krapfen is a Berliner, which makes a certain President Kennedy when he said he was a Berliner, a Dougnut!

We also have standard Berliners here, but they are filled with apricot jam and are made usually around Faschings time before Lent.

We have more than once kidded friends that Krapfen is a verb – English joke!
