Lungau Mud MInes

Lungau mud mine!!!!!

Every spring we get the ground rising in our yard as the snow melts, the upper ground thaws but underneath stays frozen.  It’s great as you can bounce up and down on the wobbly ground.  This year its been worse with mud really bubbling up just in front of our garage, so much so that the car’s been catching on it as we back out.

One of the locals was trotting down the road the other day, catching me looking, not actually bouncing, thank heavens.  He fortunately spoke fairly clearly.  To my astonishment, he said that as a kid, he’d been sent out to collect this mud by his Dad – it happens all over the Lungau.  The mud because it is good soil and mixed with minerals and has a surprisingly high clay content is then either taken to improve the garden, or if really thick used to make simple pots and plates for the houses.

Well, Lungau mud mines – what next!!!!!!!
